I’ve been looking at new mixers (2 channels, 2 EQs just isn’t cutting it lately), but anything decent (read, at least 3 channels plus and sampler and effects) is just too expensive (try searching for allen & heath or pioneer mixers and you’ll see what I’m talking about). On top of that, with hardware, what you get is what you get. you are limited in your ability to alter its configuration or add on to its functionality. Why would I spend so much money on something that is so fixed in it’s funcitonality?
What I really want to do is use Ableton Live as a mixer (no, I don’t want it to beat match for me). With Live I can add any sort of effect proprietary, custom, what have you. Plus I can sample and record all internally.
The only problem with is finding a control surface that gives me the layout and tactile feed back I need to DJ.
The Stanton SCS 1m looks pretty promising, but unfortunately it hasn’t been released yet.
